As a member of NSP’s Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) team, the Sr Data Specialist is responsible, working under the technical guidance of the Data Architect, for the design, development and testing of workflows, business rules, scripts and custom coding for data movement into target analytic data structures both in batch and in real time, on premise as well as azure cloud, as dictated by requirements. The individual in this position has a high degree of competency in ETL development using Microsoft SSIS, Azure data factory, Azure Databricks and/or any hands-on experience with Oracle’s Fusion tool suite with specific experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is an advantage.
Key Elements Of This Role Include
- Data Engineering & ETL Development: Design, develop, and test ETL workflows, business rules, custom code, and scripts to cleanse, transform, and integrate data from structured and unstructured source systems into analytical data structures.
- Real-Time Data Processing: Lead the development of real-time or near-real-time data processing solutions using tools like Oracle Fusion Middleware or Azure Event Hub to meet low-latency data requirements.
- Design & Testing: Create and document detailed design specifications. Conduct unit, system, integration, and other forms of testing on ETL processes to ensure quality and functionality.
- Data Quality & Analysis: Collaborate with data analysts to profile and assess data quality in both source systems and analytical data structures.
- Data Lakehouse Administration: Assist with setting up and managing the ETL execution schedule, monitor ETL process performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize ETL processes.
- Performance Monitoring: Work with DBAs and the Data Architect to monitor and optimize the capacity and performance of analytical data structures.
- Mentorship & Code Review: Perform code reviews and test results for work done by consultants and junior team members.
Experience
These skills will make you successful:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Professional Experience: At least 3 years of recent hands-on experience with ETL/data integration in a business intelligence context, including significant work with SSIS, ADF, and ODI (including configuration, tuning, and security management).
- Database Management: Demonstrated experience with database management systems and development tools.
- Cloud Data Integration: Proven experience with data movement and ingestion into cloud data lakes.
- Organizational Experience: Experience working in large private or public-sector organizations is preferred.
Skills And Capabilities
- ETL/ELT Architecture: In-depth knowledge of ETL/ELT architecture, application development, and data cleansing using SSIS, ADF, ADB or ODI.
- SQL Proficiency: Strong skills in SQL programming (both procedural and non-procedural) on Oracle or SQL Server platforms.
- ETL Process Management: Expertise in deploying, scheduling, and managing ETL processes.
- Cloud Technologies: Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies, such as Azure Data Factory and Azure Event Hub.
- Testing Approaches: Extensive knowledge of ETL application testing approaches and techniques.
- Data Modeling: Deep understanding of normalized and dimensional data modeling techniques and analytical data structure standards.
- Programming Languages: Knowledge of application programming languages such as Java or Python is a plus.
- ESB/EAI Tools: Familiarity with ESB and/or EAI tools and development methodologies.
- Adaptability & Communication: Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and communicate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Data Governance: Ability to support organizational data governance initiatives, including metadata management, data profiling, and quality assessment.
- BI Methodologies: Understanding of BI delivery methodologies, familiarity with agile development practices, and knowledge of ITIL/Operational Support is a plus.
